1Title:  Burrows Family Papers

 Abstract:  Charles William Burrows was president of Burrows Brothers Company, a book and stationery firm, which he founded in Cleveland, Ohio, with his brother Harris B. in 1873. Charles was manager of Burrows Publishing Company until 1912, when the brothers sold the business. Charles' daughters were Lorna Dorothea Burrows and Gladys Elgin Mott Boyd. Burrows has become Ohio's leading book, stationery, and office-supply firm. The collection consists of an unidentified diary possibly belonging to J.S. Boyd, family correspondence, composition books and school papers, historical reminiscences, and genealogical notes on the Hanford, Smith and Bouton families.

 Abstract:  Sarah Lanman Smyth (b. 1842) was the daughter of a Baptist minister who resided in Milford and New Haven, Connecticut. The collection consists of a diary kept for Sarah Smyth by her parents during the first 15 years of her life. The diary includes accounts of travels in New York, Ohio, and Michigan.

Related families included those of Ichabod Bates, Gideon and Isaac Booth, Abraham and Amos Morrell, Timothy Whitney, William Wiggins, and Alexander Wilder. The collection consists of genealogical files of the Dean Smith family, including lineage society applications, copies of Revolutionary War records, correspondence relating to the genealogy, Bible records, and materials relating to the Booth estate in England.

 Abstract:  Jacob and John Bateman were brothers who moved to Springboro, Ohio, from Chester County, Pennsylvania about 1814. Edna Bateman Schmidt, Jacob's great-granddaughter, began researching the family history in 1903. The work was continued by her son, Robert E. Schmidt. The collection consists of notebooks, letters, clippings, and publications relating to the Bateman, Smith, Watt, Schmidt, Pearson, Thomas, Mendenhall, and Walker families, and biographical information on some family members, including Robert W. Smith.

 Abstract:  Samuel Smith lived in Ashtabula, Ohio, in the 1830s and Brooklyn, Ohio City, Dover Township, and Rockport Township in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, in the 1840s-1870s. While little is known about Samuel Smith, it is known that he was born ca. 1794 in New York and he was a farmer and tavern owner in Cuyahoga County. His son James and daughter, Ursula Smith Rich, lived in Barcelona, New York. He had two other daughters, Emily Smith Ritenburgh and Louisa Smith Woodbury. His wife's name was Ursula, and she was born ca. 1798 in Massachusetts. The collection consists of account books, correspondence, land agreements, and receipts.
